SpecialtiesTrauma
Most people do not believe they have trauma. They say what has happened to them is not as bad as what others go through. But it isn't about comparing ourselves to someone else's experience. It is about whether our physical and emotional needs were met. And if they weren't, that can have a significant impact in our functioning as we grow up.Emotional neglect occurs when your feelings and needs are not met.Emotional abuse can include name calling, manipulation, and gas lighting. If you felt unsafe or scared growing up you were likely experiencing some kind of abuse.Witnessing or knowing about violence can also be traumatizing. If no one ever encouraged you or made you feel loved, you were neglected. Adult survivors of childhood trauma repeat negative patterns in relationships, work, and all aspects of life.
What to ExpectTrauma is about how we react to our environment under stress. If we feel scared and unsafe day to day, despite no visible threat, we are likely having a trauma response.
❋ AcknowledgeThe first step is acknowledging what we have experienced and that it was harmful.
❋ FeelOnce we have acknowledged what happened we can feel it in our body and see how it is impacting us today.
❋ WitnessRelief can be experienced just by witnessing what occurred and making yourself feel less alone in that moment.
❋ HealWhen we are able to connect to the traumatized parts of us we can heal from that moment and move on.
-
"I feel safe in my body."
-
"I know that it was not my fault and there is nothing wrong with me."
-
"I can communicate my needs to others."
How It Works-
How long have you been feeling this way? For how many years have you been thinking and responding with the same patterns? Breaking these cycles and learning new ways to interact can take time.
Initial relief can be immediate when starting therapy, and you may resolve your most pressing symptoms within a few months. Some people will be okay with that and move on until something else comes up, other people enjoy having someone to talk to consistently, to build a relationship with, and to get to the root of their issues to make lifelong changes.
Depending on your goals you can choose to work together for a few months or a few years.

First we’ll do a general check-in to see how you are doing and if there is a pressing concern you would like to address. Then we will get into the meat of addressing the main topic for that session, which may include doing a process to address trauma, or getting more information about your thoughts and feelings around an issue. Finally we will decide what “homework” you would like to work on between sessions.
